ISO 37001:2016 ANTI-BRIBERY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is tasked with promoting international cooperation and standardisation of international standards. They contribute to the development of organisations that function in accordance with international standards by facilitating their implementation. Because bribery has become a substantial issue, ISO decided to create an Anti-bribery Management System that can be certified, aligned, or linked with existing management systems to tackle this growing threat to enterprises and organisations around the world.

The worldwide standard for anti-bribery management systems, ISO 37001, was published in 2016. The standard is intended to assist companies in putting in place and maintaining precise procedures to prevent, detect, and resolve bribery across the organization’s commercial activities. This could involve the following:

• The organization’s bribery operations
• Bribery schemes against the company

The construction of a closed-loop control architecture that defines, executes, manages, reviews, and enhances management strategies and objectives that fulfil the specific requirements of the ISO 37001:2016 standard is known as an anti-bribery management system. Despite the fact that each organization’s nature is different, this standard covers management objectives for bribery prevention in certain situations:

• Bribery in the public, private, and non-profit sectors.
• Bribery by the organization.
• Bribery by the organization’s staff acting on behalf of or for the benefit of the organization.
• Bribery by the organization’s employees working on behalf of or for the benefit of the organization.
• Bribery in the workplace.
• Bribery of company employees in connection with the company’s operations.
• Bribery of the company’s business associates in connection with the company’s activities.
• Bribery, both direct and indirect.

ISO 37001:2016 certification is suitable to any size firm, regardless of business activities or industry, anywhere in the world, and can be readily integrated into an existing management system, such as ISO 9001, ISO 22301, ISO 27001, or ISO 44001, by using the Annex SL common framework. It contains a set of controls and mechanisms that represent global anti-bribery best practices. The goal of the guidelines is to create a management system that addresses bribery. It’s worth noting that the criterion doesn’t cover other types of corruption, such as fraud or anti-competitive behavior. The goal is to establish a management system that

• Eliminates bribery.
• Responds to bribery suspicions.
